Kamala Thiagarajan is a freelance journalist reporting on global health, science, and environmental issues from Southern India. She has been published in The New York Times, NPR, The Guardian, British Medical Journal, Undark, Hakai, BioGraphic, Ensia, BBC.com, Global Health Now, South China Morning Post, Nikkei Asia, and many other outlets. In 2023, she received a Pulitzer Center grant on crisis reporting. Her project involved chronicling the lives of India’s women seaweed divers—their triumphs, heartaches, and challenges—for NPR.
