The Pitch
Hi John,
Deb Krol here. I think I may have something for you: I’m attending this conference next week, http://conferences.asucollegeoflaw.com/climate-impacts/ and I would love to craft a piece showing how tribes are considering the “big picture” of global climate change, and sharing resources and knowledge to deal with what’s coming—and, in some cases, already impacting indigenous lands.
If you’ll notice, Joel Clement is a keynote speaker – he’s the former DOI official who sounded the alarm about the dangers faced by Alaska Native communities on the coast as sea levels rise, only to be reassigned. He’s now on his own where he can tell the truth unimpeded.
Naturally, the story will center around the topic of tribes battling climate change, the conference is simply a venue where I can find people to talk with and ideas to share.
Let me know what you think!
Thanks, Deb
