Welcome! We’re glad you’re here.
Together, we’re creating a free, public database of journalists, writers, and editors who cover science.
The purpose of this database is to help people within our community diversify their networks and find potential freelancers, collaborators, conference panelists, new colleagues, voices to follow on social media, and more.
You can join the database by filling out the questionnaire below.
The questionnaire will ask about your professional background, skills, and personal identities. Please note that your responses will be used to populate a database on The Open Notebook’s website and will not be confidential. Please fill out the questionnaire with information you’re comfortable sharing publicly. As people’s comfort with sharing information about themselves may differ based on geographic location, cultural context, safety needs, and personal preferences, the vast majority of questions are optional. Should you not wish to answer a question, simply skip it and proceed to the next.
The database is open to science writers of all backgrounds and levels of experience from anywhere in the world. If you count yourself a science journalist or communicator of any type, or if you are a local or general-interest journalist who sometimes covers science, we’d love to have you here!
If you have questions or trouble with the database, please reach out to The Open Notebook’s editor-in-chief Siri Carpenter at siricarpenter@theopennotebook.com.
